Why Visit IIPTF?

The second annual India International Pet Trade Fair (IIPTF) will be a great opportunity for Indian retailers, manufacturers, and distributors to interact with foreign buyers thronging to the fair from various parts of the globe.

India has become a gigantic player in the global arena catering to the pet industry. India has made tremendous growth in terms of the pet food industry during the last few years. With changes in lifestyle, economic growth, and increase in disposable incomes, pet adoptions in the country have increased. The pet industry has seen changes in new product trends, treats segments, pet care, changes in domestic policy for pets, veterinary and cosmetic products for pets.

In recent years, the focus of the pet industry has shifted from China to India. According to a survey conducted by Euromonitor, the retail value of veterinary clinics went up to 747.2, pet shops were seen at 882.4 and supermarkets/hypermarkets at 148.6. IIPTF is the best opportunity for those involved with the pet industry to open up to foreign visitors and businessmen looking to build connections with the Indian pet market.

According to industry estimates, the Indian pet food market is projected to have crossed 50,000 tonnes and is growing at a rate of 10-15 percent. It is also estimated that 30 percent of this market comprises imported products while the remaining products are locally manufactured.

Over the last five years, the pet packaging market has grown at a rate of nine percent. This is estimated to continue for the next five years. According to a survey of market trends in the pet industry, it was estimated that the pet food and pet care products industry is growing at an unprecedented rate in India. The pet food market shares a huge chunk of the profit. The market size forecasts predict it to reach 64.3 percent by 2011.

Foreign participants can assess the size of the Indian pet market along with changing trends at IIPTF and one can also come in touch with Business to Business exhibitors. IIPTF will extend the opportunity for manufacturers to export their products. It is an opportunity to set up joint venture manufacturing enterprises using foreign technology and Indian partners. It is also an excellent prospect for foreign manufacturers to find Indian distributors for their products and services.

IIPTF Highlights

  • It offers the biggest gathering of pet and aquarium trade professionals in South Asia.

  • Special focus will be on aquarium trade.

  • It is the only pet fair of its kind in India.

Booming Indian Pet Industry

Changes in lifestyle in the form of the rise in nuclear families, double income households, and lesser number of children have led to the increase in household products. Grooming trends, feeding trends, and training trends have rapidly changed in India during the past few years. This has led to a remarkable increase in the manufacture of pet products throughout the country.

Reduction on Import Duties

Most of the mid-priced and premium pet food brands in India are imported. The government reduced import duties on pet foods in 2007 which provides a boost to foreign manufacturers and retailers.

Locally Manufactured Brands

The outbreak of Avian Flu saw a ban on imported pet food products in 2006-07. On the one hand where foreign brands like Pro Pac and Purina were severely affected, brands like Royal Canin and Bento Kronen escaped the ban. Locally manufactured brands began benefiting from the breakdown in the supply chain of imported foods.

Retail Outlets as Feasible Distribution Points

Veterinary clinics remained a leading distribution channel for pet food and pet care products in 2007. And at the same time, pet shops became the leading distribution channel while supermarkets/hypermarkets continued to increase their share of pet food and pet care products. Specialist pet shops and stores are coming up in a big way in urban centres.

The pet food and pet care products industry in India offers great value and growth opportunities in the coming years. It is the right time to explore this booming industry to capture favourable growth opportunities. IIPTF 2008 will focus on trapping the essence of vital prospects from all parts of the globe. The mega event is likely to attract major players along with foreign buyers and distributors from all over the world. It will further enhance trade opportunities and help establish relations with some of the most important players in the pet industry.
